Curious about how Clim8® ensures quality and durability in our lab? Meet Bastien, our Test Engineer, who plays a crucial role in ensuring our products meet the highest standards of performance and reliability. Let’s dive into his world and see how he contributes to our mission.
At Clim8, innovation and user comfort are at the forefront of our mission. Our smart heating technology, is revolutionizing how people manage their thermal comfort, and Bastien is at the heart of ensuring every product lives up to promises.
The Role of a Clim8® Test Engineer
Our test engineers’ responsibilities are broad and impactful. They validate the performance, durability and functionality of products with Clim8® heating technology at every stage: before, during and after production.
They also play a vital role in product design, including material selection, insulation levels, and heating placement.
The Testing Process
Before starting the testing process of a product, the team identifies a problem, set up a protocol and finally launches the tests.
Also, they are responsible for validating two important criteria, before start:
- The test must be repeatable: tests must be run multiple times under the same conditions. This requires precise control over the test environment, machines and tools.
- Tests must be carried out under the same conditions of use as our users. Tests should simulate the actual conditions our users experience. To achieve this, we use specialized equipment like a climate chamber (down to -10°C), a wind turbine, a torso with real body heat, a bicycle and a treadmill.
Stages of Testing
Once these criteria have been validated, the team can launch the tests, which are divided into three stages: functionality, durability and thermal test.
Functionality Test
This initial test enables the team to validate the proper integration and operation of our components into the prototype, like the temperature sensor, the autodetection sensor, the heating wires, etc.
The Clim8® digital team has developed an internal application, so the Test Engineers can run a diagnostic to check the well-integration of the components through Bluetooth®, we call this, the Clim8® QC app. To double-check then, they use the Clim8® app, and the thermal camera to see through the product and ensure the heating is evenly distributed.
Thermal Test
Once the functionalities are confirmed, the team moves on to thermal performance tests in a controlled environment. They start by testing the product’s insulation performance to optimize battery performance and user experience, by ensuring that the heating panel can be integrated in the best conditions possible.
Next, they need to validate thermal efficiency, to see where the Clim8® technology can be integrated into the product to make it more efficient.
Finally, once the technology has been integrated into the product, they need to do human test in a cold environment, to see if it is really comfortable or not. To achieve this, they hold test sessions with Clim8® team members, and every participant has to answer a personalized questionnaire, so they can then analyze the feeling or warmth sensation, while using the product.
Durability Test
Once the inside of the product has been checked and validated, the test team will accelerate wear and tear on the product, by mechanically stressing it.
Durability testing helps us determine how long the heating technology lasts under specific conditions like movement and washing cycles. We use machines designed to bend, crumple and wash the product to simulate extended use and to wear out the product in record time, providing data on the technology’s lifespan and performance
Commitment to Excellence
Te rigorous testing process in the Clim8® test lab is essential to ensure the reliability and effectiveness of Clim8® smart heating technology. From functionality and thermal efficiency to durability under stress, every step is carefully designed to meet the highest standards.
We not only guarantee an exceptional user experience, but we also underscore Clim8’s commitment to innovation and quality.
